Loch Ness is an all year round location for great holidays. The autumn golds, winter whites and spring flowers make any time of year in Loch Ness and the Great Glen worth a visit. Glen Urquhart is the place to be for a short winter break. Aviemore and Rannoch Moor ski centres are both an hour away.

Take the mountain railway to the top of the Cairngorm mountains or Ben Nevis range and enjoy the crisp winter air of the highlands. Try out skiing here in the UK before you head off abroad, or simply enjoy sledging on the slopes.
Wildlife is abundant in the winter months too, red deer are a familiar site in Glen Affric, Glen Cannich and Strathconnon. Birds and geese winter in the local area and you should be able to see birds such as redwings and fieldfares, brent and greylag geese, among others. Glen Urquhart has its own magic in winter. Temperatures dip below freezing regularly and the resulting frosts can create a winter wonderland too good to miss.
The lodges are cosy and snug in winter and you will be warm inside. Outside you can star gaze into the night sky or you may even see the northern lights.
